Dental Implants Uses
Written by: Dr. Clifford Melnick, DMD
For over thirty years, dental implants have been an ideal way to permanently replace missing and damaged teeth. Dental implants provide excellent strength and durability, and are a versatile treatment that can be used to correct a variety of dental concerns with aesthetically pleasing results. At Fifth Avenue Periodontics, we understand that missing a tooth impacts both the aesthetics and health of your smile, so it’s important to visit a Manhattan cosmetic dentist as soon as possible to correct the problem.
How Dental Implants Work
Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are surgically placed into the existing structures of the mouth. Made from medical-grade titanium, dental implants fuse with the jawbone over time and can be fitted with several different types of dental restorations.
Candidates for Dental Implants
Dental implants provide cosmetic and restorative benefits for patients. If you are missing one or more teeth and would like a sturdy, natural-looking replacement, you may be a candidate for a dental implant. During a consultation for dental implants, Dr. Clifford Melnick will carefully evaluate your dental health and jawbone to determine if dental implants are the right treatment for you. If not enough jawbone is present, bone grafting and guided tissue regeneration may be used to rejuvenate the area and build up bone and tissue for a dental implant. If you are suffering from a tooth that is severely decayed, we can often place a dental implant in combination with a dental extraction.
Common Dental Implant Uses
Severely decayed and missing teeth and can make talking, chewing, and smiling more difficult, but a dental implant can restore form and function to your mouth. Dr. Melnick specializes in providing full-service treatments for our Manhattan dental implants patients. Cosmetically, dental implants are natural-looking, with no visible metal, and can fill in gaps. When your dental implant has sufficiently healed, it will function like natural tooth roots and can be fitted with different types of dental restorations, including dentures, dental bridges, and individual replacement teeth.
- If you’re missing a tooth, a single dental restoration will be custom-fit to your mouth. Our high-quality porcelain replacement teeth will look and feel like a natural tooth.
- Implant-supported dentures and bridgesare available for patients who are missing some or most of their teeth. Unlike regular dentures, a denture supported by implants will sit securely without the use of creams, making talking and chewing easier. Dental bridges are commonly attached with porcelain crowns, and can also be firmly anchored with dental implants.
Other Dental Treatments
We also offer additional advanced dental treatments, including CO2 laser technology. With our Ultraspeed CO2 dental laser, Dr. Melnick can treat many dental concerns, including gum sculpting, tooth sensitivity, and gum disease.
