Improving Smiles

Single Tooth v. Multiple Teeth Replacement

Tooth Replacement

Dental implants allow for one tooth or multiple teeth to be replaced while reducing bone loss, and giving you the natural look to match your other teeth.

Single Tooth Replacement

If you only have one tooth that needs to be replaced, then a single-tooth dental implant could be the perfect fit for you. Implant dentistry in New York City can be used to replace almost any missing tooth that you might have. If you do not have enough bone at the site of the implant, then new procedures can help regenerate enough bone so the implant can be inserted.

The dental implant is simply placed in the bone below the gum tissue. This allows for the tooth to be replaced, without disrupting the healthy teeth that surround it. Because no healthy teeth have to be grinded down (ground down) to serve as posts for traditional bridge and crown treatments, there is less tooth loss with the implant procedure.

Multiple Tooth Replacement

If you need multiple teeth replaced, then you can still turn to implant dentistry to help restore your smile. Like a single tooth replacement, with multiple tooth replacement and implant dentistry, the need to grind down healthy adjacent teeth becomes unnecessary.

A custom made bridge is created by a dental laboratory. This bridge molds to match your existing teeth, and is securely held in place by the titanium “root device” that has been placed in the bone.

The Big Picture

Both single and multiple tooth replacements give you the durability and convenience that you have been searching for. The days of removable dentures are gone, and you can rest assured knowing that you have a natural smile that will last. Your speech can even be improved by replacing a tooth, as well as your ability to chew and eat.

On top of all of the benefits, you will have the self-confidence to continually smile. When people look at you, they will notice just how beautiful your smile is, not the imperfections that once surrounded it. Give yourself the opportunity to discuss dental implants with Dr. Cliff Melnick at Fifth Avenue Periodontics in Manhattan. Dr. Melnick can answer any questions that you have concerning dental implants, and talk about if implant dentistry is right for you.

Dental Bridge vs. Dental Implant

The Difference between Dental Bridges and Implants

Both dental bridges and dental implants are used to replace missing teeth.  Both processes will improve function by increasing the biting surfaces used in mastication.  For anterior bridges and implants, esthetic improvements to the look of the smile are also realized.  A dental implant is a replacement tooth root that is implanted into the jawbone for maximum support.  The titanium implant forms a bond with the bone over time, which is even stronger than the original bond between the tooth and the jawbone. This bond is called Osseointegration.  After the implant has healed and secured into the jawbone, an abutment tooth is added to complete the procedure.  Dental implants allow a patient to eat, smile, and speak with confidence. A fixed dental bridge is a non-removable prosthesis that is attached to a patient’s remaining natural teeth.  The false tooth or teeth bridge a gap between the natural teeth.  This process involves cutting down the circumference of the supporting teeth with dental drills.  Then the bridge is cemented in place over the cut tooth structure.  With a bridge, the patient will need to use floss threaders to clean under the gap because the teeth are connected.  With implant supported crowns, they mimic the natural teeth more because you can floss between the crowns as they are not connected like a bridge. Most patients prefer dental implants vs dental bridges to replace a missing tooth because they don’t want their teeth cut down for the bridge.  With an implant, the adjacent teeth are left intact and the implant with overlying crown is placed on top to close the gap. This reduces the damage to surrounding teeth and is more convenient for general oral hygiene. In addition, the final result is more natural and mimics the look and feel of the surrounding teeth more than a bridge does.

Implant Dentistry at Fifth Avenue Periodontics

Dental implants are replacement tooth roots that are implanted into the jawbone to provide ultimate stability and long-term comfort.  Implant dentistry also allows for a patient to experience the following benefits:

  • Improved cosmetic appeal – dental implants are made to blend in with your existing smile so that you have the most natural look that compliments your individual qualities
  • Better speech – ill-fitting dentures can slip out of place and cause mumbling or slurring of words.  Because dental implants fuse to the jaw bone and become permanent, you do not have to worry about slippage.
  • Increased confidence – with a smile that looks beautiful and feels comfortable, you can also look and feel your best, increasing overall self-esteem.
  • Durability -Dr. Clifford Melnick only uses the highest quality dental implants to ensure that you have a smile that will last. With regular dental maintenance and care, your dental implants can last for many years to come.

During an initial appointment, Dr. Clifford Melnick will review your individual dental history and see if you are a good candidate for dental implants. For many patients, dental implants allow for beauty and functionality to be combined in a smile.

Dental Technology

Cone Beam Scanner Technology

We have all had those dental experiences that we wish could be forgotten.  Just thinking about those dental office experiences where nothing seems up to date, the tools are archaic, and you keep thinking to yourself, “There has to be an easier way to have this dental procedure done.”

Dr. Clifford Melnick understands the need and the importance of dental technology.  This is why he is committed to offering his patients unparalleled dental services with state-of-the-art procedures and techniques.  Through this blog, you will learn about one of the newest additions used with Dr. Melnick’s practice, the Conebeam Scanner.  Find out more about what this technology can do for you and your needs!

What Is the Conebeam Scanner?

The Conebeam Scanner is used as an imaging device before dental implant treatments.  It allows for Dr. Clifford Melnick to:

  • View structures and any features of abnormal anatomy
  • Minimize risk by delivering more predictable outcomes
  • Allow for Dr. Melnick to plan accurately and effectively to reduce invasiveness of surgery and recovery time
  • Gives Dr. Clifford Melnick a 3-D view of a patient’s jawbone and other structures to ensure proper implant placement

Dr. Clifford Melnick considers the Conebeam Scanner to be an invaluable tool in implant planning.  The 3-D cone beam images yield complete images that provide more details than X-rays, and use less radiation that ordinary CT scan machines.   The Conebeam uses spatial resolution to capture hard bones in the images, with quicker scan times than traditional scans.

This dental technology allows Dr. Clifford Melnick to evaluate the jaw before dental implants, and make personalized modifications to a patient’s individual needs.  With more detailed and accurate planning before surgery, Dr. Clifford Melnick can take additional details into account to minimize recovery time post-surgery.  To learn more about this wave of dental technology, please contact Fifth Avenue Periodontics in New York today.

Function and Beauty Combine

Maybe you have had dentures for a long time and have never been satisfied with the look and feel of them.  Maybe you have a missing tooth that you wish could have a more permanent solution for than a dental crown.  Maybe you imagine yourself more comfortable with your dental bridge.

If you are searching for a combination of beauty and functionality in your smile, then dental implants may be the right solution for you.  Implant dentistry provides patients with a near permanent solution to replacing missing teeth.  The process is simple and provides patients with outstanding results.  To learn more about the dental implant process, keep reading Dr. Paul Glat’s blog.

Implant Dentistry and Your Smile

A dental implant is a titanium replacement tooth root that is implanted into the jawbone.  The jaw serves as a secure base for the implant to become affixed and allows for the implant and the abatement tooth to feel natural and secure.

With dental implants, chewing and speaking can be dramatically improved with the replacement of one or more teeth.  During a consultation, Dr. Clifford Melnick will evaluate if any bone grafting or tooth extractions are required in order for a dental implant procedure to be effective.  Dr. Melnick may also request a CT scan prior to any dental implant procedure for the most accurate view of the jawbone.

Dr. Clifford Melnick combines technical skill and analysis with cosmetic artistry to ensure that your dental implants look natural and feel natural too.  By taking the time to fully evaluate each patient, Dr. Melnick can ensure that he has taken all of the precautions for the implants to work successfully for each individual patient.  Dr. Melnick also takes the time to listen to his patient’s concerns about their smiles, and offers the skills and technology to address the issues.

Implant Dentistry

Restoring Your Smile

Dental technology has changed the way that many patients think about their smiles. Tooth replacement utilizing implant dentistry is a main reason for this change.   Dental implants can restore a smile in terms of functionality and aesthetics, alleviating fears about denture slippage.  At Fifth Avenue Periodontics, we understand the implications of having a missing tooth, and work with our patients to ensure that we address these issues as quickly, efficiently and as painlessly as possible.

With Dr. Clifford Melnick and dental implants, you can restore your smile so that it is functional and beautiful to suit your individual needs.  Dental implants have given patients the freedom to relieve anxiety and feel more at ease with their smiles.  Through this blog, the benefits of dental implants are reviewed to give insight into this revolutionary dental procedure.

Implant Dentistry and You

Dental implants are replacement tooth roots that are implanted into the preexisting structures of the mouth.  Over time, the dental implants fuse to the jawbone.  The jawbone serves as a secure base for the implant and tooth root, and because of the placement of the implant, patients experience little pain associated with the procedure.  The implant also helps maintain bone height and reduces further bone loss in an area with missing teeth.

Dental implants can help to restore functionality and aesthetics back to the smile.  In addition, dental implants can provide the following benefits:

  • Natural Appearance- dental implants look natural and feel natural too.  Because they fuse with the jaw bone (osseointegration), they become permanent and stay in place.
  • Better Speech- dentures that do not fit well can slip and cause words to become slurred.   In addition, missing teeth can cause speaking difficulties. Implant dentistry allows patients to have a smile that is durable and that does not inhibit speech, which can alleviate anxiety.
  • Easier to Eat- dentures can make chewing foods difficult. Dentures also cover taste buds on the roof of the mouth so food doesn’t taste as good. Dental implants function like natural teeth and reduce fears of dentures slipping out of place when eating.
  • Higher Self-Confidence- patients can feel an increase in self-esteem with dental implants as missing teeth are replaced and the form of the mouth looks natural.
  • Oral Health- replacing missing teeth with dental implants can improve your overall oral health.  Chewing, speaking, and smiling can become easier, and the form and function of your mouth can return.

During a consultation, Dr. Clifford Melnick will discuss other benefits of dental implants and evaluate a patient’s oral health.  If a patient does not have enough jawbone present, then Dr. Melnick may suggest guided tissue regeneration and bone grafting to build up bone and tissue for dental implants.
